Interview time: 12:15 to 12:30

I knocked and entered the room and wished all of them (1lady, 3 gentlemen).
Me: Good afternoon!!

All: Very good afternoon, please be seated!
G1: You are MBA from UK, what are you doing here?
Me: Even though I am an MBA I see myself as a skilled and well qualified candidate for this post.
G1: We never said you are over qualified.
Me: I have been attending interviews and my qualification from UK is back firing so all I am saying please treat me as normal MBA candidate. I have done MBA just do fine tune my previous skills which I earned through my graduation and 4 years of experience in Bangalore in to customer service operations.

G1: Tell me about your family.
Me: I told….

G1: But why Clerk? You can get so many better jobs, isn’t it?
Me: I have been appearing many private interviews but that is just to see my capacity and improve my interview skills, but I did not accept any offers because I wanted to get in to bank. My father, uncle and aunt are in banks and hence we have banking culture in blood. Indeed I can get various jobs, but those jobs are not as prestigious as this one.

L: You are so restless!! Born and brought up in Aurangabad, Graduation at Bangalore and masters at UK? If you have so much qualification and experience, how will you survive as clerk?
Me: Mam, it was my wish to study in a good city and college and so I chose Bangalore. And also I wanted at least one of my qualifications to be from international University so I chose UK to do my MBA. I am from a middle class family, and I have learnt to save money and survive on minimum resources, so being a clerk is not going to be so difficult for me.

G2: How long was your MBA course?
Me: 1 year full time MBA. UK has all the masters degrees of one year.

G1: What is Balance of Payment?
Me: Its about import and export of goods and services, don’t know much about it.
G1: As you are an MBA and been to UK, tell me who decides on the currency rates?
Me: I am not sure sir, sorry about that.
G1 & G2: You are an MBA, you must be taught about it right?
Me: Yes sir, but I am not able to recollect the proper answer for it.
G1: But you should know such answers.
Me: ~ Blank , staring at the lady to please ask next question.  ~
G2: What is your weakness?
Me: Sir I am a perfectionist, and unless the work is not done perfectly, I don’t get satisfied.
G2 &G1: But just now you could not answer a question, how can you call yourself a perfectionist?
Me: Sir I am a perfectionist in terms of performance. And nobody is perfect, there is always a scope of improvement, and I going to learn a lot from this job too.
G2: You are contradicting your own statement.
Me: I am not arguing in any way sir, I am really sorry but I did not know the answer but I am very good at my job, which is customer service operations.
G1: You are a hotel management then why don’t you get in to hotels, it has a good scope right?
Me: I have done hotel management to gain hospitality skills and hence I am good at customer service operations. My work experience is based on customer service operations and I am very good at interacting with customers, handling their complaints and managing such activities. Bank is the right option, and that’s why I have been preparing for it since last one year.
G1: So did you appear PO?
Me: Yes, I did not get through it. But clerical is the best option for me to learn the operation from scratch to understand it well and hence it gives me better scope of improvement in future.
L: How will you be able to manage this kind of job which is so monotonous and to be done sitting at one place?
Me: If you look at any job, there is repetition of work every day, and when I get this job, it would be my responsibility to complete it. And even though job is monotonous, I can help others for a change from my monotonous job. I feel this prestigious job is a lot better than what I have to do in private jobs.
G3: So you did it from London? (that’s the only question he asked, I don’t know if he was observing me or just enjoying the conversation)
Me: no sir Birmingham.
L1: Do you know SWOT analysis?
Me: Yes. It is about…
L1: don’t tell me what it is, do a SWOT analysis on yourself considering this job.
Me: Well my strength is qualification, communication, knowledge about products, convincing capacity.
Weakness and threats are same where I am qualified but it is been considered as I am overqualified and hence it’s a difficult task to convince employer about how much I need this job.
Opportunity is that when I get this job, I am going to use my previous experience and qualifications to perform as best as possible and confident about climbing up the ladder in due course of time.
G1: That should be all. Thank you!
Me: Thank you very much Sir, Mam. Have a nice day ahead.
And I came out.
PS: Throughout the interview I was looking at every panel member in turns and giving smile and being honest. Panel members will make you feel comfortable so nothing to worry. I feel there are not more than 2 technical questions, rest all are related to your education and experience. All they are looking at is, how much you need this job and will you sustain?
Panel conducted interview in Marathi for almost every one, but they took my whole interview in English, I don’t know if I shall call myself lucky!

Good luck ever one!!
